This project was inspired by The Fallen of World War II, but with a goal of showing statistics for other demographics, and in a slightly more interactive way.

A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic.

Each person, represented here as one number in a total, had a name, had a life, and had a story.
It's difficult to comprehend 6 million by itself. It's even harder to comprehend 6 million lives.

As is acknowledged in the source, it is very difficult to obtain accurate figures for deaths in the Holocaust, as much of the documentation was destroyed and there's no single document with accurate death counts. Most of my statistics for these graphs are from this USHMM page.
